Maha: BJP accuses Sanjay Raut, Rahul Gandhi of misleading voters over electoral roll revision

Mumbai, Oct 16 (UNI) The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today demanded that Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut apologise not only to the Supreme Court but also to Maharashtra's 14 crore residents and the country's 140 crore people, accusing him and senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi of spreading misleading information about the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
Addressing reporters at the BJP's state headquarters in city, party spokesperson Navnath Ban alleged that both opposition leaders were creating confusion about the electoral process by making inaccurate claims concerning voter list revisions.
He remarked that Raut appeared to be following Rahul Gandhi in offering apologies. Questioning Raut's political position, he said the Shiv Sena leader should also demand justice in the Palghar sadhus' killing, Disha Salian's death, the Patra Chawl case and the matter involving a woman, identified as Patkar, who was reportedly awaiting justice.
The BJP spokesperson referred to these cases while questioning Raut's approach to justice but provided no fresh investigative findings or judicial developments concerning them.
On electoral roll revision, Ban accused Gandhi and Raut of misleading citizens by claiming that 13 crore voters' names were being deleted. He maintained that the figure included duplicate registrations, deceased voters and people who had shifted elsewhere.
According to Ban, uncertainty remained over only 3 crore names. He said eligible voters could apply for inclusion in electoral rolls by submitting Form 6 during the revision exercise.
Ban further alleged that opposition parties were resisting the revision process while raising accusations of electoral irregularities. He claimed the opposition was blaming the Election Commission after failing to retain the support of its MPs, MLAs and party workers.
The BJP spokesperson urged opposition leaders to provide accurate information to citizens rather than question the electoral process. His remarks constituted political allegations made during the press conference.
