Maha: DRI Nagpur busts inter-state drug racket, seizes amphetamine worth Rs 1.05 crore

Nagpur, Oct 1 (UNI) The Regional Unit of Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), Nagpur, under the Mumbai Zonal Unit, has busted an inter-state narcotics trafficking network and seized 1.312 kg of amphetamine estimated to be worth around Rs 1.05 crore in the illegal market, officials said today.
According to DRI officials, the operation was carried out on September 27 following a specific intelligence input regarding the movement of narcotic drugs through rail transport. Acting on the tip-off, officers intercepted a woman passenger travelling on board the Hazrat Nizamuddin–KSR Bengaluru Rajdhani Express (Train No. 22692) at Nagpur Railway Station.
A thorough search of the passenger’s luggage led to the discovery of a specially fabricated hidden cavity behind the inner lining of a suitcase. Inside the compartment, officers recovered two packets wrapped in blue carbon paper and carefully concealed from view.
Preliminary examination using a field testing kit confirmed the presence of amphetamine, a prohibited psychotropic substance. The recovered packets were found to contain a total of 1.312 kg of the drug.
The contraband, valued at approximately Rs 1.05 crore in the illicit market, was seized under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.
The woman was subsequently arrested under the NDPS Act and produced before the Holiday Court in Nagpur on the same day, officials said.
The DRI stated that the seizure highlights its ongoing crackdown on organised drug-smuggling networks operating across states and reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the Government of India’s campaign for a “Nasha Mukt Bharat”.
