Maha: Elderly person donates Rs 20 lakh to CM, PM's Relief Fund

Mumbai, May 22 (UNI) An 82-year-old charitable person Sadanand Vishnu Karandikar, originally from Achra in Sindhudurg district, on Thursday went to Mantralaya and dedicated an amount of Rs 20 lakh to the Prime Minister's and the Chief Minister's Relief Funds.
An official media statement issued here stated that Karandikar handed over two cheques of Rs 10 lakh each to Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
While dedicating his lifetime earnings to the society, Karandikar did not make any fuss or keep any expectations.
CM Fadnavis and Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, who were present, appreciated his donation.
The Chief Minister gratefully accepted the cheque and bowed to Karandikar's sensitivity and generosity.
Karandikar has retired from a private company, while his wife Sumati Karandikar had retired from government service.
As they had no children, both of them lived in an old age home in Nerul.
Following his wife's death due to cancer in August last year and seeing the struggle of relatives of cancer patients, Karandikar decided to return a large part of his earnings to the society in memory of his wife.
Accordingly, he went to Mantralaya and handed over a cheque for a total of Rs 20 lakh, Rs 10 lakh to the Chief Minister's Relief Fund and Rs 10 lakh to the Prime Minister's Relief Fund, to CM Fadnavis.
He is currently staying with his sister Prabha Shriram Shitoot, the statement added.

Kolhapur/Satara, May 22 (UNI) State Women Commission (SWC) president Rupali Chakankar termed as unfortunate the alleged suicide of Vaishnavi Hagavane, the daughter-in-law of Rajendra Hagavane, who is reported to belong to the NCP-Ajit Pawar group.
Talking to reporters at Karad town in Satara district today, Chakankar said that she has already given instructions to investigate the case, while a case has already been booked against some family members including Vaishnavi 's husband and mother-in-law, but the father-in-law and brother-in-law are absconding.
