No question of supporting the culprit in Vashnavi Hagavane death case: Women panel chief Rupali Chakankar

Kolhapur/Satara, May 22 (UNI) State Women Commission (SWC) president Rupali Chakankar termed as unfortunate the alleged suicide of Vaishnavi Hagavane, the daughter-in-law of Rajendra Hagavane, who is reported to belong to the NCP-Ajit Pawar group.
Talking to reporters at Karad town in Satara district today, Chakankar said that she has already given instructions to investigate the case, while a case has already been booked against some family members including Vaishnavi 's husband and mother-in-law, but the father-in-law and brother-in-law are absconding.
"Even though there is an anti-dowry law, if harrassment for dowry is still happening and women like Vaishnavi are losing their lives due to it, we must fight against this perversion. The State Women Commission is taking a strict stand on this issue within the law's framework," said Chakankar.
On whether Vaishnavi's father-in-law Rajendra Hagavane was a office bearer (Tehsil president) of Nationalist Congress Party(AP), Chakankar said: "Actually he is not an office bearer of the NCP(AP) but irrespective of which party he belongs to, a criminal is still a criminal. Therefore no matter who he is, we will not support a criminal. The party has already suspended his son (the deceased woman's husband) from NCP-SP."
On NCP (Sharad Pawar) leader Rohini Khadse's criticism of the SWC, Chakankar said "Who is Ms Khadse to talk on SWC, she who is elected on the name of her father (Eknath Khadse)?"
