Maha: Fadnavis accuses Opposition of applying pressure on Supreme Court

Mumbai, Oct 12 (UNI) Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis today accused the opposition of undermining institutions like the Supreme Court in order to impose left extremist ideology on the country, through agitation.
Speaking to media persons here, he said, “They say that they will march to the Supreme Court and the Chief Justice of India must accept their statement as well as hold discussions with them. In which Constitution is this written?”
Fadnavis said that the Supreme Court is separate from the executive and the legislature, due to which the Supreme Court cannot accept statements from anybody.
“There is a deliberate attempt to exert pressure over the Supreme Court. My question is, where in the Constitution is it written that the Chief Justice of India must accept statements from protestors? Is it present in the Constitution drafted by Bharat Ratna Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar? According to the Indian Constitution, can the Supreme Court be insulted in this manner? I would like to know,” the Chief Minister said.
Fadnavis noted that what the Congress party has done by making such demands is completely anti-constitutional.
“They carry the Constitution in their hands only to defame constitutional institutions. They are out to show that all constitutional institutions like the Supreme Court, CAG, RBI are ineffective”.
Fadnavis alleged that the opposition is trying to give people the impression that constitutional institutions cannot give justice.
“Finally they will say that the Constitution has to be changed. They want to impose leftist extremist ideology on the country. Rahul Gandhi and the opposition are doing the work of undermining the Constitution,” he alleged.
Fadnavis further charged that all sorts of abusive words are used against the Supreme Court and the Chief Justice of India on social media.
“They are trying to weaken the Supreme Court as well and the intention behind it is to to negate the Constitution drafted by Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar,” Fadnavis claimed and iterated that this is not the first time that the Congress has tried to undermine the Constitution.
“In 1975, Rahul Gandhi’s grandmother, the late Mrs Indira Gandhi, amended the Constitution during the Emergency and froze the most important rights given by Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar through the Constitution. The Constitution was amended in such a way that if fundamental rights are violated, nobody will be able to go to court. This is the history of the Congress and similar efforts are being made even today, No matter what happens, we will never allow you to touch Dr Babasaheb’s Constitution,” Fadnavis added.
