Nashik, May 17 (UNI) The Crime Branch of city police on Saturday arrested a 27-year-old youth, who claimed to be an Income Tax officer, for allegedly demanding a ransom of Rs one crore from senior NCP (AP) leader and former Maharashtra minister Chhagan Bhujbal here.
Accused Rahul Dilip Bhusare contacted Bhujbal this morning claiming to be an Income-Tax department officer and told him that IT officials are going to raid his farmhouse in Trimbakeshwar, where a large amount of cash has been kept.
Bhusare also claimed that he will be part of the raiding team and demanded Rs one crore from him for helping him.
Following which, Bhujbal's personal assistant rushed to the police and filed a complaint against bogus IT officer.
Based on this information, police arrested Bhusare.
A case under Sections 325, 204, 308(2), 308(5) and 351(4) of Indian Penal Code has been registered at Ambad Police Station in this case.
