Maha: IIT Bombay mourns loss of 2nd-year undergraduate

Mumbai, Sep 18 (UNI) IIT Bombay is profoundly saddened to confirm the death of a second-year undergraduate student from the Department of Energy Science and Engineering.
The incident occurred this evening. The student was found deceased in his hostel room. The circumstances are being examined by the appropriate authorities.
Earlier in the day, during an examination, the student was found to have a mobile phone in the examination hall. It is understood that the question paper had been uploaded to an AI chatbot to seek assistance.
The Institute wishes to clarify that no disciplinary proceedings had been initiated. The matter had been discussed in person by the course instructor and the Head of Department, who counselled the student and provided assurance that the incident would not have an adverse bearing on his academic standing.
The Institute extends its deepest condolences to the student's family, friends and classmates. Support services have been made available to students, faculty and staff affected by this tragic loss.
