MAHA: Massive tree plantation drive launched on World Environment Day

Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, June 5 (UNI) In observance of World Environment Day, a large-scale tree plantation campaign was launched across Maharashtra's Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district on Thursday, with 31,000 saplings planted on the first day alone.
The initiative saw active participation from the Forest Department, 136 Eco Battalion, Gayatri Parivar, Central Industrial Security Force, NCC, and other organisations.
Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar District Collector Dilip Swamy emphasised the critical importance of clean air and water for sustaining life, lamenting that these vital resources are often neglected.
“While it is important to leave behind wealth and property for future generations, ensuring they inherit clean air and water is equally essential,” he said, urging everyone to plant and protect trees to secure human survival.
The campaign, inaugurated by the District Collector, aims to plant three lakh trees on land allocated by the Forest Department. The district administration has set ambitious targets, mandating each Gram Panchayat to plant 100 trees and each Municipality and Nagar Panchayat to plant 200 trees. Awareness drives have also been conducted, including the removal of dead branches to promote tree health.
Prominent attendees at the event included Sarpanch Chhaya Chavan, Sub Forest Warden Suvarna Mane, Colonel Nataraj Saha, Lieutenant Colonel Amit Prabhu, Major Anirudh Kale, Major Pramod Bahirath, Subedar Major Chandrama Singh, Subedar Vishnu Bidhia, Rare Subedar Deokar, and Tehsildar Manish.
