Maha: Pune collector directs all agencies to work together to prevent accidents in future

Pune, June 17 (UNI) Following tragic collapse of the Kanthmala bridge over the Indrayani River in the district, which resulted in four deaths and 51 injuries, district collector and chairman of the District Disaster Management Authority, Jitendra Dudi, on Tuesday directed officials to follow set guidelines issued by the district administration during the disaster.
Speaking at a meeting held to review the works of the District Disaster Management Authority at the collector's office here, he lamented about the loss of four lives in Kundamala tragedy and instructed all agencies to work together to prevent possible accidents by giving top priority to the safety of citizens.
The collector also instructed to conduct a structural audit of dangerous and highly dangerous old bridges, causeways, roads, buildings, forts, advertisement boards and railway bridges in the district within a week and submit a report to the District Disaster Management Office.
He further instructed to remove those bridges, causeways, buildings, forts, advertisement boards that are found dangerous without causing any inconvenience to citizens.
For the safety of tourists, they should be prohibited from going to dangerous tourist spots and directional signs should be placed at tourist spots and on roads, he said.
Considering the possible flood situation during the monsoon, the flood-affected villages should be inspected and necessary measures should be taken. Also, taluka-level control rooms should be kept open 24 hours a day.
He instructed the Health department officials to keep hospitals, beds, medical officers, ambulances, blood banks and medicine stocks ready to meet any eventuality.
Police security and lifeguard teams should be deployed at crowded places, Dudi added.
