Maha: Someshwar sugar factory polls turn triangular after Ajit Pawar's Death

Pune, Oct 4 (UNI) The election to the Someshwar Cooperative Sugar factory in Baramati has emerged as a closely watched political contest, being the first election after the death of NCP (AP) leader Ajit Pawar, with three panels vying to gain control over it.
The ruling NCP (AP) faction has entered into an alliance with the Shiv Sena led by Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde for the election.
NCP (AP) spokesperson Umesh Patil announced 21 candidates from the NCP and Shiv Sena alliance for the factory polls. The development has intensified political competition in Baramati, with three panels now set to contest the election.
Rebel NCP leader Purushottam Jagtap has formed an Independent panel despite being among those who received a nomination from the NCP. Jagtap is contesting the election separately, adding another dimension to the internal NCP battle.
Meanwhile, the NCP (Sharadchandra Pawar) faction has fielded a separate panel under the leadership of Yugendra Pawar. This has once again brought the two rival NCP factions face-to-face in the election.
The BJP has also entered the contest by joining hands with Jagtap and forming a panel. The party has also brought two leaders from the Sharad Pawar faction in Purandar into its camp. As a result, the election is expected to witness a triangular contest involving the NCP-Shiv Sena alliance, the Jagtap-led panel backed by the BJP, and the Sharad Pawar faction led by Yugendra Pawar.
The last day for withdrawal of nomination papers was marked by the emergence of three panels in the fray, making the Someshwar factory election particularly significant in the political landscape of Baramati.
The contest is being closely watched as it could indicate the changing political equations in the region following Ajit Pawar's death.
