Maha: Sharad Pawar steps in as Pune MPSC protests intensify; calls CM Fadnavis to urge direct dialogue

Pune, Oct 4 (UNI) As boiling anger among Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) aspirants threatens to snowball into a major political flashpoint, Nationalist Congress Party (SP) President Sharad Pawar has stepped in, directly intervening to urge Chief Minister Devendra Fadanvis to break the ice with the protesting students.
The agitation, which erupted in Pune on October 2 under the leadership of NCP (SP) MLA Rohit Pawar, has entered its third consecutive day with no concrete resolution in sight. Aspirants have taken to the streets over mounting grievances, including alleged irregularities and paper leaks in examinations, stalled recruitment processes, and an outright demand for the resignation of the MPSC Chairman.
Amid growing student unrest across Pune and other parts of the state, a delegation of student representatives met with Sharad Pawar to apprise him of the ground situation. Following the interaction, Pawar stressed that street agitations alone would not suffice, highlighting the urgent need for a transparent, two-way dialogue between the government and the youth.
"Problems cannot be resolved just by continuing protests; a meaningful dialogue between the government and student representatives is essential," Pawar stated.
Demonstrating immediate urgency, Pawar placed a direct phone call to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis—currently stationed in Nagpur—to apprise him of the gravity of the situation. He requested the Chief Minister to prioritize the issue upon his return to Mumbai, suggesting that a high-level direct meeting be arranged between state leadership and student representatives to restore calm and address their legitimate concerns.
"It is the moral responsibility of the government to ensure justice for the students," Pawar asserted, adding that he expects the administration to take immediate cognizance of the stir.
With the political pressure mounting and opposition leaders actively backing the aspirants, all eyes are now on CM Fadanvis' upcoming return to Mumbai and whether the state administration will yield to the mounting pressure to resolve the ongoing MPSC deadlock.
