Maha: Teacher held for murder of woman, buried body in vacant house

Nagpur/Chandrapur, Oct 19 (UNI) A middle aged schoolteacher has allegedly murdered a 45-year-old woman with whom he was in a relationship, transported her body from Chandrapur in his car and buried it inside a vacant house in Nagpur's Hingna, police said on Monday.
In an attempt to destroy evidence, the accused, identified as Santosh Bhagwan Sakharakar (49), allegedly covered the burial pit with concrete, in a case bearing similarities to the plot of the Bollywood crime thriller Drishyam. The woman's body was exhumed in the early hours of Sunday.
According to police, Sakharakar allegedly killed Vaishali Vilas Tiple, a resident of Chandrapur, following a dispute between them on October 14.
During the argument, he reportedly hit her on the chest with a heavy object, resulting in her death.
He subsequently put her body in the boot of his car, drove to Hingna and buried it in a room of his unoccupied house before sealing the pit with concrete.
The case came to light after Chandrapur police received a missing-person complaint regarding Tiple and launched a search for her.
Investigators traced her mobile phone and analysed its call records, which allegedly pointed to Sakharakar's involvement.
After being detained for questioning, the accused allegedly confessed to the crime and disclosed the location where he had concealed the body.
Chandrapur Police Inspector Shyam Gavhane arrived at Hingna police station with his team and the accused. Hingna Police Station Officer Pradeep Ghonghe and Sub-Inspector Santosh Rathod subsequently notified the concerned tehsildar.
A police team then proceeded to the house, where the burial site was excavated in the presence of Naib Tehsildar Nitin Gohane.
Tiple's body was recovered at around 1.30 am on Sunday, with the entire procedure videographed in the presence of witnesses.
After completion of the inquest formalities, the body was handed over to Chandrapur police.
Further investigation into the case is underway.
