Mumbai, June 17 (UNI) Police in neighbouring Navi Mumbai city have registered an offence against two people for allegedly systematically extorting Rs 43.46 lakh from a local spa owner over a five-year period through threats and intimidation, officials confirmed on Tuesday.
According to officials at Sanpada Police Station, the accused allegedly targeted the woman business owner, menacing her with threats to report purported illicit activities at her spa establishment to law enforcement agencies. The prolonged harassment culminated on Sunday when the spa owner formally approached the Sanpada police, lodging a detailed complaint against her alleged tormentors.
Based on the victim's complaint, police registered a First Information Report (FIR) against the two accused, both identified as residents of Vikhroli in neighbouring Mumbai.
The charges invoked pertain to extortion and associated criminal offences under relevant legal provisions.
