Maha: WR collects Rs 35 lakh from unauthorised passengers in AC compartment of local trains

Mumbai, June 4 (UNI) The Western Railway has collected a fine of Rs 35 lakh and penalised 10,300 unauthorised passengers who were found travelling in AC compartments of Mumbai local trains in a month between April and May 2025, according to a data made available here on Wednesday.
According to Chief Public Relations officer of WR, Vineet Abhishek, during the month of May, an amount of Rs 21.65 crore was recovered through detection of 3.02 lakh ticketless/irregular passengers, including unbooked luggage cases.
Also, in May, WR realised fines amounting to Rs 5.71 crore through detection of more than 1.04 lakh cases over Mumbai Suburban section.
"The massive enforcement effort was part of Western Railway’s ongoing commitment to ensure a comfortable and hassle-free travel experience for genuine passengers. Intensive ticket-checking drives were conducted across various train categories — including suburban locals, Mail/Express services, passenger trains and holiday specials — to curb the widespread issue of ticketless travel," he added.
