Man arrested in Assam town for poisoning birds to death

Guwahati, July 1 (UNI) Police in Assam's Barpeta district have arrested one person for allegedly poisoning to death at least 20 birds.
Police said the incident took place at a remote village in Amrikhowa area under Sarthebari police station in Barpeta district.
Police said that the accused Nripen Deka has sprayed his paddy fields with poison intentionally to kill the doves that flock and graze on his paddy field.
Police said that they have received an FIR by locals after they spotted hundreds of lifeless bodies of Kopou (spotted doves) on the paddy field of Nripen Das.
"We have recovered about 20 lifeless birds and sent them to the forensic science laboratory for ascertaining the reasons of death of the birds," said Prakash Deka, officer in charge of Sarthebari police station.
He said that a case has been registered and the police have arrested Nripen Das. "We have produced him in court which has sent him in judicial custody," said the officer.
