Man found murdered; wife and accomplice arrested

Tumakuru, June 29 (UNI) A missing persons case in Tumakuru district took a grim turn after police uncovered that the man reported missing had in fact been murdered by his wife and her aide.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Ashok Venkat said the case, registered on June 25, involved Shankaramurthy, who had gone missing from his residence. His wife, Sumangala, had filed the initial complaint.
“During our preliminary inquiry, we found inconsistencies in the statements. The scene of the alleged disappearance also appeared suspicious,” SP Venkat told reporters today.
Upon further questioning, the police uncovered that Sumangala and her aide, identified as Karadalu Nagaraju, had allegedly assaulted Shankaramurthy with wooden sticks. “Nagaraju then pressed his feet on the victim’s neck, resulting in his death,” the officer said.
The body was later disposed of in nearby Gubbi. It has since been recovered and sent for a post-mortem examination.
The case has been reclassified as murder, and both accused have been arrested. Police said efforts are on to file the chargesheet at the earliest.
The exact motive behind the killing remains unclear, though preliminary findings suggest a domestic dispute as the possible trigger.
