MCL sets up E-waste collection kiosks across establishments

Bhubaneswar, Oct 12 (UNI) Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL) has set up e-waste collection kiosks across its establishments to ensure the safe collection and disposal of discarded electronic items through authorised recycling channels as part of the ongoing Special Campaign 6.
The campaign, which will continue until October 31, 2026, focuses on systematic waste collection, environmental awareness and cleanliness across MCL’s headquarters and operational areas.
MCL sources said employees across the company’s establishments were actively participating in the campaign, contributing to cleanliness drives and promoting environmentally responsible practices.
Awareness programmes are also being organised to sensitise employees and nearby communities to the harmful effects of improper e-waste disposal, including soil and water contamination and risks to human health and the environment.
During the first week of the campaign’s implementation phase, MCL cleaned 73 of the 240 identified sites, covering an area of 3,06,663 square feet against the target of 10,00,000 square feet.
The campaign also aims to dispose of 600 metric tonnes of scrap. As part of the initiative, 350 heavy earth-moving machinery (HEMM) batteries have already been disposed of, generating revenue through scrap disposal.
Through these measures, MCL seeks to strengthen waste management practices, promote resource recovery and improve environmental sustainability across its establishments.
