MCOCA Court Remands 11 Accused in Tiger Shroff Firing Case to Police Custody Till November 7

Mumbai, Oct 29 (UNI) A special court hearing cases under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) on Thursday remanded all 11 accused in the Tiger Shroff firing case to police custody till November 7, after the stringent law was invoked in the case.
The accused were produced before the special court for the first time following the invocation of MCOCA provisions. Seeking their further custodial interrogation, the police requested 10 days of police custody, citing the need to unravel the alleged conspiracy, establish the roles of the accused and investigate the procurement of foreign-made weapons.
Moving the remand application, the police submitted that claiming responsibility for a crime after its commission was a serious matter, as such acts could create an atmosphere of fear and terror in society.
The investigating agency further informed the court that the accused were in contact with one another through the encrypted messaging application Signal, which was posing challenges to the investigation.
The public prosecutor told the court that the police needed to crack the communications exchanged through the application to ascertain the nature of the conversations among the accused and establish the extent of their involvement in the case.
The police also identified Anil Pandit as the alleged kingpin of the gang and submitted that further interrogation was necessary to determine how he brought the other accused together, arranged funds for them and procured foreign-made weapons.
Opposing the police plea, defence lawyer Ajinkya Mirgal argued that the accused had already been interrogated several times, including during transit remand and subsequent periods of police custody. He contended that the investigation had substantially been completed and that there was no justification for further police custody. He urged the court to send the accused to judicial custody instead.
The defence lawyer also raised concerns over the medical condition of accused No. 9, Sameer, submitting that he was suffering from health issues and had only one kidney. Citing his medical condition, Mirgal requested the court to consider sending him to judicial custody.
After hearing the submissions, the special court remanded all 11 accused to police custody till November 7.
