Meghalaya Cabinet approves appointment of Ripnar Lyngdoh as new Chief Information Commissioner

Shillong, Oct 28 (UNI) The Meghalaya Cabinet has approved the appointment of retired IAS officer Ripnar Lyngdoh as the state's new State Chief Information Commissioner (SCIC), an official said on Wednesday.
Lyngdoh becomes the second woman bureaucrat in Meghalaya to head the state’s highest appellate transparency body, established under the Right to Information (RTI) Act.
Health and Family Welfare Minister Wailadmiki Shylla confirmed that the Cabinet cleared the appointment during its meeting on Tuesday night.
Shylla stated that Lyngdoh’s name was formally recommended by a high-level selection committee led by Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong, and Leader of the Opposition Dr Mukul Sangma.
The top transparency post fell vacant following the untimely demise of the previous SCIC, Rebecca V. Suchiang, in August this year. Suchiang, a former Chief Secretary, had assumed charge in April 2025 for a three-year tenure.
