Mizoram minister explores new skill and entrepreneurship ties with IIE Guwahati

Aizawl, May 28 (UNI) Minister of State for Labour, Employment, Skill Development & Entrepreneurship (LESDE), Lalnghinglova Hmar, visited the Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship (IIE) in Guwahati on Wednesday, holding talks with IIE Director Ishwar Chanabasappa Poojar to explore fresh possibilities for advancing skill development and entrepreneurship in Mizoram.
Hmar remarked that while the IIE’s reputation is well known, Mizoram has not yet fully benefited from its programmes.
“We want to bring new initiatives in skill and entrepreneurship, and for that, strong coordination with IIE is needed,” he said, noting that collaboration between the LESDE Department and the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship would be crucial.
The IIE Director shared that work has already begun in Mizoram, with selected schools identified for rainwater harvesting training. Under this initiative, chosen materials and workers will be mobilised through IIE support to set up rainwater harvesting systems, alongside educating children on the judicious use of clean water — combining practical work with entrepreneurship lessons.
The IIE also expressed interest in launching entrepreneurship-driven tourism projects in Mizoram, proposing interdepartmental meetings with the state government to advance such initiatives. Tourism Minister Lalnghinglova Hmar welcomed the idea, calling it a promising step forward.
Hmar further urged that all IIE-linked schemes operating in Mizoram be coordinated through the LESDE Department for proper tracking and support. He encouraged officials to stay informed and engaged on progress, including sharing updates and communication over email.
The IIE Director assured that training, capacity-building, and scheme rollouts would continue robustly, with reports to be submitted on new activities initiated under the expanded collaboration.
Lalnghinglova Hmar was accompanied on this visit by Dr Saithangpuia, Deputy Resident Commissioner at Mizoram House, Guwahati. UNI ZS SSP
