Mock drill held in Kaithal to prepare for biological emergencies

Satish Seth
Kaithal, Oct 15 (UNI) A mock drill to assess preparedness for biological emergencies was jointly conducted by the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the district administration at Government Boys Senior Secondary School, Committee Chowk, Kaithal.
The exercise aimed to raise awareness among citizens and test coordination among various departments during emergencies such as a pandemic.
As part of the drill, teams rescued people affected by a simulated biological emergency, shifted them to a safe location and provided immediate medical assistance.
The NDRF, district administration, Disaster Management Department, Health Department, police and Red Cross teams participated in the exercise and demonstrated their emergency response procedures.
During the operation, 14 patients were shifted to a designated safe area, eight were isolated, and two critically ill patients were referred to hospital. Health Department ambulances reached the spot promptly to transport patients for treatment. Emergency Response Vehicles (ERB 112), Durga Shakti personnel, traffic police and police riders also assisted in managing the situation.
A team of approximately 30 NDRF personnel secured the affected area and established communication, medical, storage and command posts to ensure an organised response. The drill also tested interdepartmental coordination and the effectiveness of evacuation and medical assistance arrangements.
Assistant Commissioner (Under Training) Shivani Panchal said the exercise was conducted under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner Aparajita. She emphasised that mock drills should be organised periodically to educate citizens about appropriate responses during disasters.
Panchal said coordination among the NDRF, police, Red Cross and other departments was essential for effective disaster management. She added that social organisations also played an important role during emergencies, stressing that saving lives was a collective humanitarian responsibility and everyone should come forward to help those in need.
NDRF Assistant Commandant Devendra Singh said the force worked diligently during disasters, but such exercises were equally important to familiarise administrative officers, employees and citizens with emergency response procedures. He said the drills also helped assess coordination among different departments.
According to Singh, awareness programmes and mock drills were being conducted across Kaithal district from October 5 to 17, with the participation of various administrative departments to provide practical knowledge about disaster preparedness and management.
Following the exercise, the NDRF team demonstrated boats and other equipment used during disaster response to Shivani Panchal and the students. The team also explained their functions and use in emergency situations.
Several officers and officials participated in the drill, including DSP Ramesh Chandra, District Revenue Officer Chandra Mohan, Deputy District Education Officer Rajendra Azad and Inspector Yashbir Singh, along with personnel from various departments.UNI SSE AAB
