Mohit Malik on playing Birju Lohar in ‘Mirzapur: The Movie’

Mumbai, Oct 30 (UNI) Actor Mohit Malik says understanding Birju Lohar’s motivations, rather than judging his actions, was central to his performance in "Mirzapur: The Movie".
Malik said Birju is neither completely good nor completely bad. His strengths, weaknesses, and unexpected decisions make him an interesting character.
"Mirzapur The Movie," after a successful theatrical release, is now arriving on Prime Video India.
Speaking on the occasion, the 42-year-old actor shared that the biggest challenge of playing Birju was understanding his thoughts, circumstances, and the reasons behind his decisions. Instead of judging his actions as right or wrong, he tried to understand the person within.
Malik believes that bringing a complex character to life on screen requires actors to step aside from their own personal perspectives and understand the character's perspective. The audience should be given the freedom to decide whether the character is right or wrong.
Speaking about the character of Birju Lohar, the actor said, "Birju has many flaws and makes decisions that aren't always the right ones. As actors, we can't play a character by assuming they're good or bad. We have to understand their mindset, circumstances, and the reasons behind their decisions. The biggest challenge is portraying the character honestly, without any bias. Audiences connect with characters who are like real-life people, with strengths, flaws, and complexities."
He said that in the case of Birju, he aimed to understand the person behind his actions and present that truth on screen. UNI NST SS
