MP: Five youths die of poisonous gas in well

Guna, June 24 (UNI) Five youths died due to asphyxiation in a well in Guna district of Madhya Pradesh on Tuesday, police said.

According to police and administration, a calf fell into an old well in Dharnawada village this morning. Mannu Kushwah, a youth from the village, went down the well to rescue the calf. When he started having difficulty breathing, Sonu Kushwah and another youth went down to help him.

Seeing their condition worsen, Mannu's elder brother Pawan Kushwah and two other youths, Guru Ojha and Shivcharan Sahu, also descended into the well.

Due to the possible presence of toxic gas in the well, all of them started suffocating. Pawan Kushwah managed to come out with the help of a rope, but the other five youths lost consciousness in the well.

The youths were taken out of the well in a serious condition and rushed to the district hospital, where doctors declared all five - Guru Ojha, Shivdayal Ojha, Sonu Kushwah, Mannu Kushwah, and Siddharth Sahariya - dead. Three of them died on the spot, while two died before reaching the hospital.

Collector Kishore Kumar Kanyal, Superintendent of Police, and other senior officials reached the spot and monitored the rescue operation.

The bodies were handed over to the families after post-mortem. UNI XC AKT SSP
