MPSC aspirants’ Pune protest may shift to Mumbai as agitation enters 6th day

Pune, Oct 7 (UNI) The agitation by Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) aspirants in Pune could soon shift to Mumbai, with preliminary discussions reportedly underway to take the protest to the commission’s headquarters.
The students, who have been protesting in Pune for the past six days under the leadership of Sharad Pawar-led NCP MLA Rohit Pawar, are likely to intensify their agitation by moving towards Mumbai in the coming days.
Pawar held discussions with the protesting students regarding the proposed shift. With the government yet to take any concrete decision despite the agitation entering its sixth day, Pawar is learnt to have discussed the possibility of taking the protest directly to the MPSC headquarters in Mumbai.
The main protest has been underway since October 2 in the Garware College and S.M. Joshi Bridge areas near Patrakar Bhavan in Pune’s Navi Peth. The protesters are demanding, among other things, the resignation of MPSC chairman Vivek Bhimanwar and changes to the examination system to ensure greater transparency.
Meanwhile, a writ petition has been filed in the Bombay High Court against the ongoing MPSC students’ agitation in Pune. Advocate Arnav Urankar has approached the court, alleging that the protest is causing inconvenience to residents and disrupting traffic in the city.
The petition claims that thousands of people are gathering at the protest site every day without permission and that road blockades are preventing ambulances from getting through. It also alleges that schoolchildren are facing difficulties while travelling through the affected routes.
