Mysuru Dasara: Shivakumar orders probe into police action against ministers

Mysuru, Oct 22 (UNI) Karnataka Chief Minister DK Shivakumar has ordered an inquiry into an incident involving the alleged obstruction of four state ministers by police personnel during the Nandidhwaja Puja at Mysuru Palace, raising questions over security protocol and coordination between the police and elected representatives during the state’s flagship cultural festival.
Shivakumar has directed Chief Secretary Shalini Rajneesh to investigate the incident, identify the officials responsible and recommend appropriate action based on the findings.
The incident occurred on Wednesday during the Vijayadashami celebrations, when Kannada and Culture Minister Shivaraj Tangadagi, Agriculture Minister PM Narendra Swamy, HC Balakrishna and KS Basavanthappa were reportedly stopped while attempting to enter the restricted ceremonial area.
A senior police officer allegedly denied them entry, citing access restrictions. The situation escalated when Tangadagi objected to being stopped and identified himself as the minister in charge of Kannada and Culture.
The issue was subsequently resolved after Shivakumar intervened, following which the ministers were allowed to proceed to the venue.
The episode drew attention after a video of the exchange circulated on social media, prompting questions about the implementation of security arrangements and the communication of access protocols to ministers attending the ceremony.
Shivakumar termed the incident serious and stressed that government officials must exercise restraint and discipline while discharging their duties. He also underscored the need to respect elected representatives, while directing that responsibility for the incident be fixed through a formal inquiry.
The investigation is expected to establish the circumstances under which the ministers were stopped, whether established protocol was followed and whether any official exceeded the scope of their duties.
The incident comes against the backdrop of elaborate security arrangements for Mysuru Dasara, which culminates in the traditional Jamboo Savari procession and attracts large crowds, dignitaries and public representatives.
The findings of the inquiry will determine whether disciplinary action is warranted against any personnel involved.
