Congress leader Sameer questions Owaisi’s claims on Muslim Political Empowerment

Hyderabad, Oct 22 (UNI) Hyderabad Lok Sabha constituency Congress in-charge Mohammed Waliullah Sameer on Thursday criticised AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi for advocating independent Muslim political leadership in Uttar Pradesh while allegedly failing to develop such leadership across Telangana.
In a statement, while reacting to Owaisi’s recent speeches, Sameer questioned why AIMIM had contested only nine of the 119 Assembly constituencies in Telangana in the 2023 elections and supported the then BRS in most other constituencies.
He alleged that AIMIM had confined Muslim political representation to a few constituencies instead of encouraging young leaders, women and professionals from across the State.
Sameer challenged Owaisi to disclose how many new Muslim leaders, particularly from poor and middle-class families, AIMIM had developed outside Hyderabad’s Old City over the past two decades.
Defending Congress, he said the party had provided Muslims opportunities to serve as Presidents, Governors, Chief Ministers and union Ministers, while acknowledging the need for greater representation of Muslim youth and women.
He also questioned AIMIM’s electoral strategy, alleging that Owaisi advocated Muslim vote consolidation in Hyderabad while encouraging separate political mobilisation in other States.
Referring to Owaisi’s declared assets, which he said had increased from around Rs 39 lakh in 2004 to over Rs 23 crore in 2024, Sameer argued that voters had a right to assess improvements in education, employment, housing and civic infrastructure during the same period.
He urged Owaisi to demonstrate his political model in Telangana by developing young Muslim leaders across the State and providing greater opportunities to women and first-generation political workers.
