Nagaland guv calls for improved road connectivity toward Myanmar

Dimapur, Oct 28 (UNI) Nagaland Governor Nand Kishore Yadav on Wednesday stressed the need for better road connectivity to Myanmar, which borders the state's Meluri district.
He said better infrastructure would improve access to markets and essential services and create new opportunities for trade, tourism, and economic activity.
Yadav also highlighted the potential of the International Trade Centre at Avakhung in promoting cross-border trade and strengthening connectivity with Southeast Asia under the Government of India's Act East Policy.
He said this at a meeting with the Meluri district administration, heads of departmental offices, village council representatives, and other dignitaries at the Meluri Village Council hall during his visit to the district.
Yadav further underscored the need to harness Meluri's mineral resources, tourism potential, agriculture and horticulture for sustainable economic growth, while ensuring environmental protection and safeguarding the interests of local communities.
He also stressed the importance of strengthening education, healthcare, drinking water, electricity and digital connectivity to improve the quality of life of the people.
Calling for coordinated efforts, he urged the government departments to work with urgency and vision, while encouraging the people of Meluri to actively participate in the district's development.
He expressed confidence that Meluri, as the youngest district of Nagaland, could emerge as a model border district — peaceful, connected, environmentally responsible and economically vibrant — contributing to the progress of Nagaland and India's engagement with Southeast Asia.
