Narendra Modi may be father of BJP, not of farmers: Patole

Mumbai, July 1 (UNI) After being suspended for a day from the lower house during ongoing monsoon session of the Maharashtra Assembly, Congress legislator Nana Patole today launched a blistering attack on the ruling BJP
saying that (Prime Minister) Narendra Modi may be the father of BJP, but not of farmers.
Patole was suspended from the legislature for a day after raising his voice on the farmers' issue.
Talking to media in the premises of the legislature, he accused BJP of being an anti-farmer party.
Taking aim at BJP leader Babanrao Lonikar and Agriculture Minister Manikrao Kokate, the former Congress state president accused them of insulting farmers with their blatant statements.
Lonikar had reportedly said that Modi gives money to farmers not only for sowing, but also for buying clothes and mobile phones for their family members, while minister Kokate had insulted farmers by comparing them to beggars.
Patole said that Lonikar came to power by promising to give loan waiver to farmers, guaranteed prices for agricultural produce and uninterrupted 24-hour free electricity to agri pumps, and now he is insulting farmers.
"This is the magic of power, but we will not tolerate insults to farmers. We will continue to fight for farmers," he added.
