Naveen Patnaik urges Odisha CM to hold urgent talks with Centre, Andhra Pradesh to resolve Kotia dispute

Bhubaneswar, Nov 4 (UNI) Leader of the Opposition and Biju Janata Dal (BJD) president Naveen Patnaik has urged Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi to initiate urgent discussions with the Central Government and the Andhra Pradesh Government at the highest level to resolve the long-standing Kotia border dispute.
In a letter to the Chief Minister, Patnaik expressed serious concern over Andhra Pradesh's reported move to conduct elections in the disputed Kotia region on November 5, despite strong opposition from the people of Odisha.
Describing the proposed election as a matter of grave concern, the BJD president warned that the situation in the border region was becoming increasingly complicated, with tensions and confrontations reportedly rising between officials of Odisha and Andhra Pradesh.
Referring to the latest developments, Patnaik stressed the need for immediate intervention by the state government to prevent further escalation and maintain peace in the sensitive border region.
In view of the prevailing tension and the impending elections, he called upon Majhi to initiate high-level discussions with both the Centre and the Andhra Pradesh Government to find an amicable and lasting solution to the dispute.
Patnaik also pointed out that both Odisha and Andhra Pradesh are governed by parties belonging to the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), making political dialogue at the highest level particularly important for resolving the issue.
He said the Chief Minister should immediately take up the matter in keeping with the BJP's commitment, made in its 2024 Assembly election manifesto, to safeguard Odisha's territorial integrity.
The former Chief Minister further reminded Majhi that protecting Odisha's legitimate interests and ensuring that the situation at the grassroots level does not deteriorate further were among his moral responsibilities as the head of the state government.
Expressing hope that the BJP leadership would honour its commitments to the people of Odisha, Patnaik urged the state government to take concrete and effective measures to fulfil the assurance made in its 2024 election manifesto regarding Kotia, rather than allowing it to remain merely an electoral promise.
He emphasised that safeguarding Odisha's territorial interests and preventing further tension in the Kotia region required immediate, decisive and sustained action from the state government.
