NCC girl cadets complete 250-km Parang La high-altitude trek

New Delhi, Sep 16 (UNI) Twenty NCC girl cadets from across the country have successfully completed a challenging 250-km high-altitude trek across the Parang La Pass, with the expedition aimed at promoting adventure activities among young women while fostering leadership, endurance and national integration.
The All India Girls High Altitude Long Trek ‘Aparajita - Parang La 2026’, a flagship adventure activity of the National Cadet Corps, was flagged-in at Karzok in Ladakh on Wednesday by DG NCC Lt Gen Virendra Vats and Additional Secretary, Ministry of Defence, Dipti Mohil Chawla.
The 20-member team traversed the Parang La Pass at an altitude of 5,578 metres, covering the route connecting Kibber in Himachal Pradesh’s Spiti Valley with Karzok in Ladakh’s Changthang region.
The cadets completed the expedition over 30 days, negotiating demanding high-altitude terrain that included glaciers, snowfields and river valleys. They were accompanied by NCC officers, instructors, medical personnel and support staff throughout the trek.
The expedition was flagged off from New Delhi by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on August 18, marking the beginning of the month-long trek through some of the most challenging terrain in the Himalayan region.
Congratulating the cadets and support staff on the successful completion of the expedition, Lt Gen Vats said such activities contribute to developing leadership, self-confidence, teamwork and endurance among young people.
The expedition was specifically organised to encourage greater participation of young women in adventure activities and expose them to the physical and environmental challenges associated with high-altitude terrain.
It also brought together NCC cadets selected from different parts of the country, providing an opportunity to promote camaraderie and national integration through a common expedition.
The successful completion of the Parang La trek marks another major adventure activity undertaken by the NCC to provide cadets with exposure to demanding outdoor environments while developing qualities of discipline, resilience and teamwork.

EPFO wage ceiling raised to Rs 25,000, over 51 lakh more employees to gain Social Security Cover

New Delhi, Sep 16 (UNI) The union Cabinet on Wednesday approved a substantial expansion of India’s formal social security framework by raising the wage ceiling for mandatory coverage under the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) from Rs 15,000 to Rs 25,000 per month, a decision expected to bring more than 51 lakh additional employees within the statutory ambit of provident fund, pension and insurance benefits.
