FTAs Open new opportunities for Indian farmers in Global Markets : union Minister Chouhan

Hyderabad, Sept 18 (UNI) Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) entered into by India are opening up new opportunities for farmers to access international markets, union Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said on Friday, urging states to align agricultural production with global demand and quality standards.
Addressing the Regional Agriculture Conference for Southern States here, Chouhan said the agreements have facilitated market access for Indian agricultural products, including fruits, vegetables and grains.
He called for a detailed study of the FTAs to identify products that are in demand in international markets and align domestic production accordingly.
Farmers should be encouraged to produce fruits, vegetables and grains that meet international quality requirements, he said.
He stressed the need to adopt international standards across the agricultural value chain so that Indian farmers can benefit from expanding global markets.
"The markets of the world are opening up for India, and this is an opportunity for farmers," Chouhan said.
He urged stakeholders to deliberate on the upcoming Rabi season and other issues concerning agriculture to ensure that farmers are able to take advantage of opportunities in global markets.
