Amazon to add 50 Ashray centres across India, launches mobile vans in Bengaluru

Bengaluru, Oct 7 (UNI) Amazon India on Wednesday announced plans to set up 50 new Ashray rest centres across India and launched two mobile Ashray vans in Bengaluru to provide on-road rest facilities to delivery drivers ahead of the festive season.
The expansion will take the company's Ashray network to 200 centres across the country, with Amazon targeting 250 centres by the end of 2026. The new centres will come up in cities including Bengaluru, Delhi and Mumbai.
The mobile Ashray vans launched in Bengaluru make the city the fourth after Delhi-NCR, Mumbai and Hyderabad to have the facility.
The vans will operate along high-traffic delivery routes and provide air-conditioned seating, drinking water, free Wi-Fi and mobile charging facilities to drivers.
The two vans were flagged off in Bengaluru in the presence of Amazon Vice President, Employee Experience and Relations Sandy Gordon and Vice President, North America Employee Relations Brendan Branon.
"With the festive season driving a sharp increase in deliveries, it's more important than ever that drivers across the industry have access to rest on their routes," said Salim R. Memon, Director, Operations, Amazon India.
He said Ashray was designed to provide every delivery driver, irrespective of the company they work for, access to a clean and cool place to rest during their workday.
Memon said the expansion was part of Amazon India's broader investment of more than Rs 2,800 crore in 2026 to strengthen safety, health and financial well-being across its operations network.
Launched in 2024, Ashray centres provide air-conditioned seating, drinking water, mobile charging points, clean washrooms, first-aid kits and resting spaces. Each centre can accommodate 10 to 15 people at a time and allows free access for up to 30 minutes per visit.
The centres operate throughout the year from 0900 hrs to 1900 hrs at high-footfall locations such as petrol pumps and commercial spaces, with parking facilities for delivery drivers.
Amazon said Ashray centres are open to all delivery drivers, including those working for other e-commerce and logistics companies.
The initiative began with a pilot in 2024 across Delhi-NCR, Bengaluru and Mumbai, expanded to 100 centres across 16 cities in 2025, and reached 150 centres in May 2026. The company said the network is now being expanded to 200 centres and is on track to reach 250 by the end of the year.
