AM Green wins H2Global Asian auction, secures €585 million ammonia supply deal

Hyderabad, Sep 30 (UNI) AM Green Ammonia (India) Private Limited, one of India's leading green hydrogen and ammonia developers, on Wednesday said it has won the Asian lot in Germany-backed H2Global's renewable ammonia auction, securing a 10-year purchase agreement worth a minimum of €585 million with Hintco GmbH.
The award follows a competitive bidding process in which AM Green's offer was ranked first among the bids received.
Under the agreement, Hintco will purchase renewable ammonia from AM Green over 10 years, with the possibility of procuring additional volumes for resale in the European market, the company said in a release.
The ammonia will be produced at AM Green's Kakinada project, Phase 2, in Andhra Pradesh, where an existing natural gas-based ammonia and urea complex is being converted into a renewable ammonia production facility using alkaline electrolysis technology.
The project will use round-the-clock renewable electricity backed by pumped-hydro storage to meet European union requirements.
First deliveries to Germany are expected in 2029, with shipments planned from Kakinada Seaports, located adjacent to the facility.
The agreement strengthens AM Green's plans to establish India as a supplier of renewable ammonia to European and Asian markets.
It also provides long-term offtake visibility for the company's production plans, while supporting Europe's efforts to secure supplies of renewable hydrogen-based products for industrial decarbonisation.
Timo Bollerhey, CEO of Hintco and co-founder of H2Global, said the auction demonstrated the growing maturity of renewable ammonia projects and that long-term contracts could provide producers with the certainty needed to invest while securing supplies for European buyers.
Markus Exenberger, Executive Director of the H2Global Foundation and co-founder of H2Global, said renewable ammonia could transport clean energy across oceans to industries that cannot be fully electrified, helping build resilient international clean-energy supply chains.
Mahesh Kolli, Group President and Joint Managing Director of AM Green, said the award validated the company's ability to deliver renewable ammonia at an industrial scale through a competitive bidding process.
He said the company intends to supply customers across Europe and Asia as demand for low-carbon industrial feedstocks grows.
Hintco said the full results of the H2Global tenders covering Africa, North America, South America and Oceania would be published before the end of 2026.
