Telangana records Rs 2,054-cr liquor sales in 19 days amid Dasara surge

Hyderabad, Oct 22 (UNI) Driven by festive demand during Bathukamma and Dasara celebrations, liquor sales across Telangana crossed Rs 2,054.51 crore during the first 19 days of October, logging a 37.02 percent jump compared to Rs 1,499.46 crore recorded in the corresponding period last year, according to data from the Telangana Prohibition and Excise Department.
Depot dispatches accelerated sharply in the four working days leading up to Dasara, generating Rs 755.14 crore against Rs 698 crore registered during the corresponding festive stretch in 2025.
Sales peaked on October 19, the eve of Vijayadashami, touching a record single-day high of Rs 303.40 crore.
The day's turnover accounted for nearly 40 percent of the four-day festive window.
Volume-wise, overall liquor supplies reached 48.75 lakh cases by October 19, compared to 35.71 lakh cases during the same period in the previous year.
Beer consumption significantly outpaced hard spirits, recording a 40.93 percent surge.
Total beer dispatches touched 30.37 lakh cases between October 1 and 19, up from 21.55 lakh cases last year, with 10.44 lakh cases supplied during the final four working days alone.
In comparison, Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) dispatches grew by 29.80 percent, rising from 14.16 lakh cases to 18.38 lakh cases during the 19-day timeframe, with 6.83 lakh cases lifted during the four-day peak.
Excise officials attributed the historic sales spike to widespread family reunions in rural districts for Dasara and Bathukamma, coupled with aggressive advance inventory stocking by licensees across the state's 2,620 retail wine shops and 1,200 bars to prevent supply dry-outs amid intermittent depot closures.
