Stock markets extend winning streak to 7th session, Sensex gains over 1,700 pts

New Delhi, Nov 6 (UNI) Indian stock markets today extended their winning streak for a seventh consecutive session, shrugging off a global market rout, with Nifty crossing the 24,900 mark for the first time since February 27, 2026, on back of falling crude oil prices, sustained foreign fund inflows, encouraging corporate earnings and a strengthening rupee.
At close, the BSE Sensex surged by 1,718.01 points, or 2.17 per cent, to 81,028.02, and the NSE Nifty climbed up by 493.75 points, or 2.01 per cent, to 25,030.35.
The National Stock Exchange (NSE) and Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) will remain open for a special Muhurat trading session on Sunday, November 8, 2026, to mark Diwali Laxmi Pujan.
Among the sectors, energy, media and realty declined 0.9-1.5 per cent, while consumer durables, Nifty Bank, pharma and private banks gained 1-3 per cent.
On Nifty, ICICI Bank, M&M, HDFC Bank, Titan Company and Axis Bank were the top gainers, while Eicher Motors, Power Grid Corporation, Bharat Electronics, Adani Enterprises and Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles were among the biggest losers.
Indian rupee extended its winning streak settling at a six-month high. The currency closed 56 paise higher at 93.91 per US dollar compared with the previous close of 94.47.
Nearly 100 stocks touched 52-week high, including Stocks of Sai Life Sciences, Glenmark Pharma, ICICI Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Indian Hotels, Shyam Metalics, Eternal, Marico, Motilal Oswal, Divis Labs, TVS Motor, Aurobindo Pharma, Tech Mahindra, Anand Rathi, Coforge, Bosch, among others.
Vinod Nair, Head of Research, Geojit Investments Limited said, "Indian equities defied a global rout, extending their winning run as investors treated the home market as a relative safe harbour amid turmoil abroad. Wall Street was hammered by a sharp tech sell-off as investors weighed the prospect of tougher regulation under Democrats. Large private banks emerged as the prime beneficiaries, their deep liquidity and attractive valuations making them a natural home for this rotational money."
"A sharp weekly slide in crude, easing U.S. Treasury yields and a firmer rupee further burnished India’s relative appeal. With Fed officials still hinting at further hikes, the U.S. jobs report due later today will be closely watched. Still, as Samvat 2082 draws to a close, the market enters the new Samvat with foreign flows, crude and the currency finally pulling in the same direction." UNI VK SS
