Adani Group plans over Rs 1 lakh crore investment in Bengal by 2035

Kolkata, Sept 24 (UNI) Adani Group chairman Gautam Adani announced plans to invest more than Rs 1 lakh crore in West Bengal by 2035, with the proposed investments spread across ports, logistics, power generation and distribution, roads and bridges, cement manufacturing and hyperscale data centres.
Speaking at the foundation stone-laying ceremony of Adani Arogya Mandir in New Town on Thursday, Adani said the group’s investment plans were based on the state’s strategic geographical location, connectivity and economic potential.
“Infrastructure can transform the potential of millions of people. At the Adani Group, infrastructure is at the heart of everything we do,” Adani said.
Highlighting Bengal’s geographical advantage, he said the state was strategically placed to connect India’s industrial regions with the Northeast and the Bay of Bengal, while also providing access to maritime trade routes linking the country with Southeast Asia and other international markets.
“Bengal’s location is extremely important in connecting India’s industrial regions and the Northeast with the Bay of Bengal. It is also advantageously placed to connect with markets in Southeast Asia and beyond through maritime routes,” he said.
Adani said the group was looking at investments in port and port-linked infrastructure, logistics and freight movement, power generation and distribution, roads and bridges, cement production, ropeways and hyperscale data centres.
He outlined how investments across these sectors could create an interconnected industrial ecosystem, with infrastructure development supporting manufacturing and employment.
“Ports strengthen logistics. Logistics attracts industry. Industry expands manufacturing. Manufacturing needs energy. Energy enables digital infrastructure, and digital infrastructure brings the industries of the future. Most importantly, this multiplies opportunities for jobs,” Adani said.
The proposed investment in hyperscale data centres assumes significance amid the rapid expansion of artificial intelligence, cloud computing, digital transactions and large-scale data storage.
Such facilities could also generate demand for power, telecommunications, technology and skilled manpower.
Adani said Bengal’s geographical and economic advantages could enable it to develop beyond its role as a gateway to eastern India and emerge as a major integrated industrial and economic hub.
The group’s proposed investment programme is expected to cover both traditional infrastructure and newer digital infrastructure sectors.
The investments, if implemented as planned, could result in the expansion of industrial and logistics infrastructure and create direct and indirect employment opportunities.
The announcement comes at a time when the state government is seeking to attract large-scale private investment across sectors.
