Arunachal Govt inks MoU with L&T to train 500 youth in construction skills

Itanagar, May 21 (UNI) In a key initiative to enhance employability among youth, the Department of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship (SDE), Government of Arunachal Pradesh, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Larsen & Toubro Limited (L&T) at the Construction Skill Training Institute (CSTI) in Jadcherla, Telangana on Wednesday.
As per the agreement, L&T will train over 500 youth from Arunachal Pradesh in key construction trades at its state-of-the-art CSTI campus. The MoU was signed during the visit of Arunachal Pradesh Skill Development & Entrepreneurship Minister Nyato Dukam, along with Advisor to Minister Dr Mohesh Chai and SDE Commissioner Saugat Biswas.
The MoU was formally executed between SDE Director Sibo Passing and J Raghuraman, Head of L&T’s Construction Skill Training Department.
This strategic partnership aims to provide comprehensive skill development and on-the-job training (OJT) to youth from across the state, including students from Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs), preparing them for promising careers in the infrastructure and construction sectors.
Currently, 37 trainees from Arunachal Pradesh are undergoing intensive training at the Jadcherla campus in high-demand trades such as electrician, welder, surveyor, and draughtsman (civil). The training model prioritizes hands-on learning, with 80 percent practical and 20 per cent theoretical instruction, ensuring participants acquire industry-relevant, job-ready competencies.
To mark the launch of the training programme, Minister Nyato Dukam participated in a plantation drive on the CSTI campus. He also toured the institute’s cutting-edge labs, workshops, and residential facilities, interacting with trainees and motivating them to maximize the opportunity.
“This training is a gateway to national and international job markets. I urge our youth to aim high, grow in their professions, and even become job creators,” said Dukam. He reaffirmed the state government's commitment to youth empowerment through skill development and entrepreneurship.
Commissioner Saugat Biswas thanked L&T for its prompt and proactive collaboration. He revealed that similar training partnerships are being pursued with Honda India Foundation, Holiday Inn, Toyota, Tata Technologies, and others to ensure Arunachal’s youth are equipped with skills aligned with real-world industry demands. “This collaboration is part of a broader strategy to align vocational training with evolving market needs, including automotive, tourism, and hospitality sectors,” he noted.
J Raghuraman announced that L&T would offer training and OJT opportunities to Arunachal trainees across all nine CSTI centres in India. He also shared that successful candidates would be considered for placement at L&T construction sites in Europe and Gulf countries, opening doors to global employment opportunities.
