Separate units set up to probe narcotics and cybercrime

Patna, June 9 (UNI) In a major exercise to crack down on cyber crimes, narcotics and drug trafficking, Bihar police has set up two separate units to probe into the cases related to it.
Additional Director General of Police (ADG-Headquarters) Kundan Krishnan told media persons here on Monday that Cyber ​​Crime cum Cyber ​​Security and State Anti Narcotics cum Liquor Prohibition Unit have been established which will be commanded by an officer of the rank of ADG or Inspector General of Police (IG). He said with cabinet approval, both units will start functioning fully.
Krishnan said that criminals involved in smuggling of drugs and illegal weapons were being identified, and the process for confiscating their property will soon be started. He said that so far, 6-7 such criminals have been identified, and the process of confiscating their property was about to begin.
The ADG said that drugs were smuggled into Bihar from Nepal, UP, north-eastern states, especially Manipur. It is also smuggled in large quantities from Myanmar. He said that opium was cultivated illegally in some areas of Jharkhand adjoining Gaya, including Chatra, Palamu, Kauokol.
The police officer said that the role of the Narcotics Prohibition Unit will be important to take action in these areas. He said the unite will flow the work style of NCB (Narcotics Control Bureau) and some important cases will be investigated in collaboration with NCB.
Krishnan said that Bhojpur, Motihari (East Champaran) districts were considered hotspots in drug trafficking.
The ADG said that the cyber crime unit will be developed as a centre of excellence and a special campaign will be launched to nab cyber criminals. A cyber lab will also be set up in which mobile phones, laptops and other electronic items will be analysed, he informed adding that some special policemen are also being trained.
