Low pressure likely to trigger heavy rain in Odisha; collectors put on alert

Bhubaneswar, Sep 21 (UNI) The Odisha Government on Monday directed all district administrations and concerned departments to remain fully prepared and take preventive measures in view of the likelihood of heavy rainfall triggered by a low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal.
Reviewing the preparedness for the weather system, Chief Secretary Anu Garg said there was currently no possibility of a cyclone, but the low-pressure system was likely to bring heavy rainfall, particularly to southern Odisha. She said the government was closely monitoring the situation and had directed the district administrations to take advance precautionary measures.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the well-marked low-pressure area over the east-central and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal is likely to intensify into a depression during the next 24 hours and into a deep depression during the subsequent 24 hours. It is likely to move west-northwestwards and reach near the north Andhra Pradesh-south Odisha coast by the morning of September 23.
