Mining regulation in Tripura shifted to Industry Department

Agartala, Sept 20 (UNI) The Tripura government has recently implemented a significant administrative change in the regulations governing sand mining by transferring oversight from the Forest Department to the Department of Industries & Commerce.
Under the new structure, the Department of Industries & Commerce will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of sand mining, including processing applications, issuing and renewing permits, approving mining plans, managing mining leases, and addressing various regulatory and administrative matters related to the sector.
All current sand mining operators, prospective applicants, leaseholders, and other stakeholders are encouraged to reach out to the Industries & Commerce Department for any sand mining-related applications and inquiries. However, it will still maintain its powers in matters falling under its statutory jurisdiction or as directed by the state government.
It is essential for all submissions to adhere to the established procedures, as well as the relevant rules, guidelines, and government orders. The notice has clarified that the Forest Department will no longer be the authority for granting sand mining permits or approvals.
The Directorate of Industries & Commerce is urging all relevant parties to acknowledge this administrative shift and cooperate for a smooth transition and successful implementation of the new framework.
