Steel Mont seeks probe into cancellation of Patna airport parking contract

Patna, Oct 31 ( UNI ) Steel Mont Prvt. Ltd. has sought an impartial probe into the cancellation of its 10-year parking contract at Jay Prakash Narayan International Airport, alleging that the Airports Authority of India (AAI) violated its own rules.
The company said in a statement here on Saturday that it won the contract through an open tender on September 1, 2025, with a monthly bid of around Rs 86 lakh. However, the Supreme Court ordered a status quo within eight days, delaying the handover of the facility.
Steel Mont said it wrote to the AAI twice seeking permission to submit the bank guarantee and begin operations, but received no response. The court''s order was lifted on July 27, 2026.
The AAI issued a show-cause notice on August 19, asking the company to complete pending formalities within seven days. It cancelled the contract on August 27, citing non-compliance with the tender conditions and failure to submit the required bank guarantee.
The company, in its statement alleged that the cancellation was premature, as the 60-day period for completing formalities had not expired. It said the bank guarantee was submitted on August 29.
Steel Mont also raised fingers the fresh short-term tender issued on August 24, alleging that it violated the AAI's Commercial Manual 2025. It said a corrigendum was uploaded about an hour before the bidding deadline on August 31, without extending the deadline.
The company said it had invested around Rs 3.11 crore in deposits, fees and equipment, apart from a bank guarantee liability of Rs 7.27 crore.
It alleged that the sequence of events raised concerns about the fairness of the tender process and sought an impartial inquiry.
The AAI, in its cancellation letter, said the company had failed to complete the required formalities despite being given an opportunity to comply.
