Patna, Oct 29 (UNI) Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary Thursday expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Central government after NABARD approved a project worth Rs 1,774.98 crore to improve and expand drinking water facilities and strengthen water supply systems in Aurangabad, Sasaram and Dehri.
Choudhary said Rs 2,014.65 crore would be spent on the development of drinking water infrastructure in these areas.
The Chief Minister said Bihar''s development was gaining momentum under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, adding that the Centre''s support was helping expand infrastructure and improve public amenities across the state.
He said the project, approved under the Rural Infrastructure Development Fund (RIDF), would facilitate the improvement and expansion of drinking water facilities in Aurangabad, Sasaram and Dehri.
In line with the objectives of the Jal-Jeevan-Hariyali campaign, the project will make appropriate use of surface water from the Sone river to strengthen water supply systems. It is also expected to reduce dependence on groundwater and help meet future drinking water requirements.
Choudhary said the project would initially provide drinking water facilities to a population of around eight lakh. The government has set a target of extending these facilities to nearly 12 lakh people by 2051.
He reiterated that the state government was committed to ensuring access to clean and adequate drinking water, promoting water conservation and reducing dependence on groundwater.
