Odisha Cabinet approves Mukhyamantri Sahari Bikash Yojana for urban infrastructure projects

Bhubaneswar, June 6 (UNI) The Odisha Cabinet on Friday approved a new scheme called the Mukhyamantri Sahari Bikash Yojana (MSBY) to undertake various urban infrastructure projects.
The Cabinet meeting, chaired by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, proposed an expenditure of Rs.6,000 crore over five financial years, from 2025-26 to 2029-30, for the implementation of the scheme.
Briefing newsmen after the meeting, Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja said that the new scheme aims to enhance urban infrastructure and improve the revenue model with an integrated approach to urban development in line with the Viksit Odisha 2036 vision.
Under the scheme, the development of general and revenue-generating infrastructure such as Kalyan Mandaps/Multi-purpose Halls, Town Halls, Crematoriums, Community Centres, Market Complexes, Roads and Drains, Parks, Multi-utility Commercial Complexes, Vending Zones, Fish and Weekly Markets, Neighbourhood Marketplaces, Parking Spaces, Mini Cold Storages, EV Charging Stations, and Micro-tourism Facilities will be undertaken.
Additionally, the scheme will cover the development of Mini Parks, Open-air Gyms, Children's Play Areas, Walking Tracks, Playgrounds, Open Space Developments, Afforestation Activities, Bhoga Mandapa & Bhagabat Tungis, and Rainwater Harvesting Structures.
The Chief Secretary also mentioned that riverfront and water body development, as well as the creation of Kanjiahudas/Goshalas and Pet Care Centres, will be part of the scheme.
Ahuja said that a total sum of Rs.6,000 crore is proposed to be spent over the five financial years (2025-26 to 2029-30). For the current financial year (2025-26), Rs.1,100 crore has been allocated
in the annual budget for the implementation of the scheme.
He added that during this five-year period, 50,000 urban infrastructure projects will be undertaken, which are expected to provide wage employment to over five lakh skilled and unskilled labourers.
Similarly, over 5,000 afforestation projects will be created to protect the environment and to counter climate change, he stated.
