Kolkata Police summons former WB minister Indranil Sen's daughter over alleged Durga Puja pass scam

Kolkata, Nov 2 (UNI) The Kolkata Police has summoned the daughter of former state minister Indranil Sen to Lalbazar for questioning in connection with the alleged multi-crore rupee corruption case involving the sale of Durga Puja passes.

Investigators are examining her bank account after suspecting that money collected through the alleged irregularities was routed through it.
The daughter was summoned on Monday as investigators sought to ascertain the source of the transactions and her possible involvement in the case.
Indranil, who has been arrested and is currently in police custody, and his wife Madhuchhanda Sen are facing allegations of collecting money through the sale of Durga Puja passes and organising preview shows under an entity called 'Mass Art'.
Madhuchhanda, who held an official position in the organisation, has secured anticipatory bail from the Calcutta High Court.
The court had rejected Indranil's anticipatory bail plea, paving the way for his arrest.
According to the complaint, the couple allegedly used UNESCO's name in promotional material to sell Durga Puja passes, falsely suggesting that the initiative had the organisation's direct approval.
The allegations relate to commercial activities undertaken after Kolkata's Durga Puja received UNESCO's intangible cultural heritage recognition in 2021.
The complainant has alleged that no such commercial agreement with UNESCO existed.
A complaint was lodged against Indranil and his family by Joydeep Mukhopadhyay at Bowbazar police station, following which an FIR was registered.
Apart from the Kolkata Police, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) is also investigating the financial transactions in the case. The central agency has questioned the former minister several times.
On October 28, Indranil was arrested by the Kolkata Police shortly after leaving the ED office at the CGO Complex.
Before his arrest, searches were conducted at several locations, including his residence in Kasba and a country house in Singur.
After the Calcutta High Court rejected his anticipatory bail plea, Indranil approached the Supreme Court.
However, the police arrested him before the matter could be taken up for hearing.
The former Chandannagar MLA subsequently withdrew his petition from the apex court, which directed him to cooperate with the investigation.
