Bihar CM, union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan inspect flood-hit areas in Bihar

Patna, Sep 16 (UNI) Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary and union Agriculture, Farmers Welfare and Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Wednesday conducted aerial and ground inspections of flood-affected areas in the state and reviewed the relief and damage assessment measures.
The two leaders first conducted an aerial survey of flood-hit areas in Maner in Patna district and Dighwara in Saran district. They later visited Terasia and Saraipur villages under Terasia panchayat in Raghopur block of Vaishali district to assess the situation and crop damage.
During the ground inspection, Chouhan and Choudhary travelled by boat through the inundated areas and inspected submerged villages and damaged crops.
They subsequently travelled by tractor to the affected areas of Terasia and Saraipur and interacted with local residents.
Residents apprised the leaders of their difficulties and submitted applications seeking relief.
They also demanded that roads be raised and new roads constructed in the flood-affected areas, besides compensation for crop losses.
The Chief Minister and the union Minister heard the grievances and directed officials to take necessary action for their resolution.
Choudhary said the Centre and the state government were committed to assisting people affected by the floods. He said the state government had released an interim assistance of Rs 7,000 to affected families.
He said farmers and other affected people would be provided compensation as per the applicable norms after a detailed and accurate assessment of the damage was completed.
The Chief Minister said a central team had reached Bihar under the leadership of Chouhan, following Prime Minister Narendra Modi's directions, to assess the damage caused by the floods. He said the union Minister had reviewed the condition of crops and roads and would also visit Munger and Bhagalpur.
A review meeting would subsequently be held to discuss the extent of flood damage and the status of relief operations, he said.
Choudhary thanked the Prime Minister for sending the central team to Bihar to assess the flood situation and expressed his gratitude to Chouhan and the team.
During the visit, the Chief Minister also honoured young Vishal Kumar with a certificate of appreciation for saving the lives of four people from his village during the floods.
Officials accompanying the leaders said arrangements for community kitchens, healthcare facilities, boat transportation and other essential requirements were being maintained in the flood-affected areas. UNI RS SAS
