Bihar Govt working in mission mode to transform education system: Minister Tiwari

Patna, Sep 19 (UNI) The Bihar government is working in mission mode to bring about comprehensive changes in the state's education system, including transforming government schools into better academic institutions and resolving teachers' issues through a transparent mechanism.
Education Minister Mithilesh Tiwari told UNI here today that the government's objective was to provide quality education to children in Bihar so that they would not have to migrate to other states in search of better educational opportunities.
He said the government was focusing on improving basic infrastructure in schools as well as the quality of teaching, discipline and the overall development of students.
“A campaign for the transformation of schools is underway and the target is to complete it within the stipulated time,” the minister said.
Tiwari said school principals were being provided specialised training to enable them to take greater responsibility for academic leadership. “The role of principals and teachers is the most important in the success of any school,” he said.
On teachers' transfer and posting, the minister said the government had put in place a transparent system and was working to ensure adequate availability of teachers in schools and districts where they were required. He said the convenience of teachers and their family circumstances were also being taken into consideration.
The minister said the government was also emphasising the use of technology to improve transparency and accountability in the education system. Efforts were being made to link school monitoring, teacher attendance, students' academic progress and school activities with technology, he said.
Tiwari said Bihar's children had no dearth of talent and stressed the need to provide them with quality teachers, proper guidance and resources required for preparation for competitive examinations within the state.
“The government is working to strengthen schools and provide students with a better environment for preparation for competitive examinations,” he said.
The minister said education could not be confined to obtaining a degree and needed to be linked with skills, technology and employment.
The government was working on a long-term plan to provide better educational and employment opportunities to the youth of Bihar, he said.
Tiwari said teachers should become agents of social change and not restrict their role to completing the prescribed curriculum. “They should also play an active role in the character building, discipline and future development of children,” he said, stressing the need for better communication between schools and parents.
The Education Minister said the government would not tolerate negligence in the education system and that the performance of schools would be reviewed regularly.
“Wherever improvement is required, necessary steps will be taken,” he said.
Tiwari said the government's objective was to provide children studying in government schools an educational environment comparable to, and better than, that available in private schools. “Strengthening Bihar's education system is among the government''s top priorities and its results will be visible in the coming period,” he said.
