Meghalaya prepares for final electoral roll on Oct 26

Shillong, Oct 12 (UNI) Preparations are afoot for the final electoral roll in Meghalaya, scheduled for publication on October, 26, as per the revised schedule approved by the Election Commission of India (ECI).
“Every effort will be made to complete the remaining statutory processes and ensure the preparation of an accurate, inclusive and transparent electoral roll,” State Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Dr Brahma Deo Ram Tiwari, said.
He said a special drive for enrolment of left-out, first-time and young electors is proposed after the final publication.
Tiwari said the ECI has reiterated that voter enrolment is a continuous process, and any eligible person whose name is not included in the electoral roll may apply for enrolment through the prescribed procedure.
He urged all electors to check and confirm their names in the final electoral roll, either through their respective Booth Level Officer (BLO) or through the Voters' Service Portal at https://voters.eci.gov.in.
“The possession of an Elector Photo Identity Card (EPIC) alone does not entitle a person to vote unless his or her name is included in the electoral roll in force for the concerned constituency,” the CEO reminded.
He further iterated the commitment of the election machinery to ensure that every eligible citizen is provided the opportunity to be included in the electoral roll.
As on date, 2,641 electors across Meghalaya were found ‘ineligible’ for the final electoral roll, while 20,86,026 electors were ‘parked’ for final publication, in the course of the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR).
The CEO emphasised the need to expedite the remaining cases in accordance with the prescribed statutory procedures and directions of the ECI.
He directed concerned Electoral Registration Officers and their assistants to ensure timely scrutiny and disposal of applications in accordance with the prescribed procedure.
