Genome sequencing planned for Aizawl’s two new Covid-19 cases

Aizawl, June 1 (UNI) The samples of two individuals who recently tested positive for Covid-19 in Aizawl will soon be dispatched to Kolkata for genome sequencing to identify the specific variant of the virus, according to Dr Vanlalrengpuia Chinzah, State Nodal Officer of the Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme (IDSP).
Speaking on Sunday, Dr Chinzah noted that the country’s current Covid-19 landscape is dominated by the JN.1, XFG, and LF.7.9 variants. Preparations are underway, he said, to send the samples to Kolkata in the early part of the coming week.
This year, Mizoram has tested 189 samples of suspected Covid-19 cases, of which two were confirmed positive on Thursday. The infected individuals are currently undergoing treatment at Zoram Medical College and Hospital (ZMC&H) in Falkawn, near Aizawl. Both patients are reported to have only mild symptoms and are considered to be out of danger.
