World Peace Pagoda symbolises spiritual friendship between India and Japan: Shrawan

Patna, Oct 25 (UNI) The World Peace Pagoda at Rajgir symbolises the spiritual friendship between India and Japan and their shared commitment to world peace, Bihar Rural Development and Information and Public Relations Minister Shrawan Kumar said.
Addressing a function on Sunday marking the 57th foundation day of the World Peace Pagoda, Kumar said the monument conveyed a universal message of peace and non-violence.
He said revered Japanese Buddhist monk Fuji Guruji had conceived the idea of the pagoda to spread the message of peace and non-violence across the world. Guruji believed that love was the answer to war, compassion to hatred, and non-violence to violence. With this vision, he chose Ratnagiri Hill in Rajgir for the monument, Kumar added.
The minister said there was a need to preserve this heritage for future generations, describing the pagoda not merely as a monument but as a centre spreading the message of peace and humanity.
Highlighting efforts to preserve Bihar''s historical legacy and rich cultural heritage, Kumar said significant initiatives had been undertaken under the leadership of former Chief Minister Nitish Kumar to identify, conserve and develop religious and cultural sites associated with different faiths.
He said improvements in roads, transport and tourism infrastructure had enhanced facilities for visitors arriving from across India and abroad.
Kumar further said attractions such as the glass bridge, zoo safari, the giant statue of Lord Buddha in the middle of Ghora Katora Lake, and the modern ropeway connecting visitors to the World Peace Pagoda had given Rajgir greater prominence on the international tourism map.
Bihar Tourism Minister Kedar Prasad Gupta attended the ceremony as the chief guest.
Kenpuke Horiuchi, leader of the CGC and Santodou Pilgrimage Mission; senior monk revered Nirapnonjan of Myohoji; Dr Mahasweta Maharathi, secretary of the Rajgir Buddha Vihar Society; and a large number of Buddhist monks and devotees from India and abroad were also present at the function.
