Manipur Congress Chief lambasts BJP government for flood mismanagement

Imphal, June 1 (UNI) Manipur Congress President Keisham Meghachandra Singh visited flood-affected areas of Heingang Assembly Constituency in Imphal East District, which is the constituency of former Chief Minister N Biren Singh, on Sunday.
K. Meghachandra said the Water Resources Department, Manipur, failed to control floods in various vulnerable areas of river banks of different rivers in Manipur. He said that residential and agricultural areas were already submerged by overflowing water from breach of river banks and overflow of rivers. He said that breach of river banks and overflow of rivers were due to incomplete construction of various retaining walls.
He said that the works which were taken up for critical flood control and anti-erosion in Manipur under Flood Management and Border Area Programme of Ministry, Water Resources, Government of India, were not completed. He further stated that the Union Ministry had sanctioned an amount of Rs 460 crore for Manipur for flood control measure, and BIPL (Bharatia Infra Project Ltd ), with close links with BJP, took construction works for an amount of Rs 168 crore , to be completed in one year as per contract agreement signed in 2023. He asked why the works have not been completed .
